I pledge allegiance, to the flag...

Tue Jul 4, 2006, 3:47 PM
Happy 4th-day, surely.

I had a piece in mind, but it just wasn't working. Bums me out cause I'd been counting on finishing it for quite a while, but it's just not coming together.

But here's the basic message that I had in mind:

Have you ever thought about WHY it would require a constitutional amendment to ban flag-burning?

Because "banning flag-burning" would be unconstitutional.

Glenn Greenwald is still kicking ass and naming names.

He is truly a patriot, when we need them more than ever.

By the time I had finished reading the blog.. all the comments had disappeared from your journal :o

I enjoy reading that blog, its always an interesting read. Plus Glen seems to be able to add in a little humour occasionally. Always a blessing.

It would be a pleasant suprise to be able to find a British equivilant to him.

Sure, flag burning isn't a great idea most of the time. People don't usually like it. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have the right to do it. It's a free country, is it not?

Typical political ploy in an election year, nothing more. Don't have anything to hang your hat on? War in Iraq a big mess? Afghanistan still a big mess? No Osama? Interest rates rising? Oil prices soaring? The middle class losing massive financial ground? Corruption at an all time high? Deficit setting records? Then put the pebble under the walnut shell, shuffle it around, and look! Flag burning! Gay marriage! Married gays burning flags! Pay no heed to the man behind the curtain! These aren't the droids you're looking for!

The Bush Administration has two opponents - normative reality and the US Constitution.

Ah, the non-issue. Anything to distract the masses from the real problems. :|

Not to mention, "Global temperatures rising? Disasters looming with inadequate preparation? Voting mechanisms become highly suspect? International reputation in the sewer? Flailing amok like a drunk with a Coke problem?"

But of course, much worse is the treachery of the free press, now there's a problem to do something about.

"mushc worse treachery of the free press".

You know ~ I actually agree with you there.

It was a matter of public record ~ per the Whitehouse ~years ~ before the NY Times "broke" it.

:lmao:

I only wonder *why* that isn't their main defence of their actions?...Especially considering the *severity* of the implications ~ in the publics eye... ..Honestly puzzles me...Unless they just genuinely *like* being perceived as anti-current Whitehouse they don't care if the perception is accurate~ or not.

:hmm:

* I'm reading Bernard Goldberg's BIAS [link] , btw;)
