Deviation Actions
Okay, I've read enough now to have an opinion.
First off, we might agree that the minimum standard is fairness.
That is, when one performs an action, does he treat another like he himself would like to be treated?
Clearly, this standard has been ignored.
...
Over the last couple of years, there's been a lot of fretting, that DA was becoming too corporate.
And, on the flipside, a lot of reassurance that the values were right and there was nothing to worry about.
Clearly, the values have gone wrong.
...
Sometimes, unpleasant necessities dictate unpleasant changes...
How does one enact these changes, and remain consistent to the minimum standard?
You'll notice a lot of parties cop out on this.
They say, Well, the change had to happen, and there was no other way.
Woe is the imagination that's so limited as that.
When if only one would try, it's so easy to imagine:
How would we like to be treated?
How would we prefer to handle the change?
Could we please be asked how best to effect the change in everyone's best interests?
Could we at least be given appropriate notice?!?
Isn't it funny, how when we quit a job, we're expected to give two weeks notice, but when they lay us off, they show us the door?
They insist they deserve time to adapt, but give no damn about ours.
This is a useful schism. It might be a very telling definition of "too corporate."
When individuals become simply inconveniences, who evidently don't deserve...
To be treated how one himself might like to be treated.
...
I've defended controversial actions by this site for a long time. And I don't regret that. Because I know by "seeing their side" (or imagining as charitably as I could) that I've done my best for the community.
But "seeing their side," in this case, is simply illuminating.
That the minimum standard seems to have been lost in the shuffle, of "too corporate" in motion.
So to be clear, I don't know enough to argue with the decision.
But I have read enough to despise the execution.
...
It won't just be inconvenient for me to leave this site...
It will be a royal pain in the ass.
But in this world, it's pretty easy to divide up...
Those who are part of the problem...
From those who are part of the solution.
And there's no way that the latter can abide the former, without becoming the former themselves.
So until certain parties afford Scott the respect he deserves...
I will.

Snuck up on me...
Will be poking around the anniversary and site today, in and out,
starting with this very interesting new article compiled by SRaffa (https://www.deviantart.com/sraffa).

Show on the Road
As you all know, nothing motivates me to actually finish work like an audience.
So I hope you'll come join me.

For real this time! ;)
This weekend, to welcome you, three new prints!
Lives at Stake - now!
Right About Everything on Saturday, and
History of Men on Sunday.
Plus, half a dozen works there already that you may not have seen.
I am feeling the mojo again.
And if some of you would enjoy it too, I think I might be able to keep it up! :w00t:

Fireworks for the occasion...
Hey, thanks for your response to my bad news a couple of weeks ago. It's been hard, but the well wishes meant a lot to me. Still do.
Meanwhile, the promised good news - my long-overdue website overhaul! - is still a couple of weeks off.
But some of you may recall my habit of doing new art for holidays and special occasions?
Well, today would surely qualify.
Congratulations, America, and all over the world. Our horrible nightmare is finally over.

A new year, a different year...
Hi.
Unfortunately, 2008 ended on a really sad note for me.
But I've been thinking about you all a lot, and I'll be back with some good news in a week or so.
In so many ways, it will be a very different year.
